Simon MacLachlan is an endorsed clinical psychologist and accredited gestalt psychotherapist who provides a warm, open and collaborative space for healing and growth.

Working with adults, children (6 yrs+) and adolescents from diverse backgrounds, Simon's treatment areas include: depression, anxiety, trauma, grief/loss, relationship difficulties, sleep issues, stress and adjustment issues, and other concerns. Visit the Services page page for more information. ​

Simon's treatment focus is humanistic and person-centered, addressing the whole person. Some of the approaches he utilises include:

Background & Experience​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

 

Simon has worked in varied roles including hospital mental health settings, child protection, behavioural consultancy for the Department of Education, and private practice. Simon completed postgraduate training in Clinical Psychology at Edith Cowan University, and holds additional training in counselling and psychotherapy, including specialised training in behavioural sleep medicine. Simon is an accredited gestalt psychotherapist, having completed a 4-year training program with the Gestalt Training Institute of WA.

Simon is dedicated to providing his clients with the current best practice and evidence-based treatments, and is continually engaged in professional development, supervision and learning. Simon has a particular interest in the understanding and treatment of complex trauma across the lifespan.

Individual Therapy

Simon provides high quality individual psychological therapy tailored uniquely to your concerns, and informed by evidence-based research.

 

It can be challenging to reach out for help for the first time, and Simon's goal is to make this process as easy as possible. Simon's approach is warm, gentle, relaxed, and always person-centered.

 

Support is offered for the following concerns: depression, anxiety, stress and life adjustments, trauma, sleep difficulties, interpersonal and personality issues, health concerns, grief and loss, low self-worth, anger management, self-development and coaching. 

Family Therapy

Family therapy views problems within the context of the family system, helping members navigate life changes, mental health issues, or behavioral challenges by strengthening relationships and building new ways of relating.

 

Simon address issues that affect the entire family, such as communication breakdowns, conflicts, or transitions.

 

Simon draws on structural and strategic models of family therapy and supports family members to be heard and validated in a safe environment. 

Couples Therapy

It is not uncommon for relationships to become strained due to conflict, personality differences, neurodivergence, communication issues, separation, divorce and infidelity.

 

Simon is trained in several couples therapy approaches including the Gottman couples therapy method, schema therapy for couples, and gestalt therapy (Resnick's Connection Model).

 

Simon supports and validates both partners equally, focusing on collaboration and supporting the goals and values of both partners.

Child & Adolescent Therapy

Simon offers specialised counselling for children and adolescents aged 6 years and older, using a diverse range of child and adolescent-focused therapies including: trauma-focused CBT, play-based therapy, the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, and emotion regulation training.

 

Childhood and adolescence can present many developmental, emotional and behavioural challenges.

 

Simon has worked with children for over 20 years in various capacities including teaching, behavioural consultancy, child protection, and youth trauma counselling.
